I was so excited to see Orla Gartland in concert, especially at a venue so perfectly suited to this indie artist like Meow Wolf here in Denver. Dublin-born, London-based singer-songwriter Orla Gartland has been charming ears and hearts since her teenage years, when she began sharing her music on YouTube.

Her debut studio album, Woman on the Internet, released in 2021, showcased her indie pop sensibilities while her latest album Everybody Needs a Hero explores topics like feminism, monogamy, and personal growth. Beyond her solo work, Orla is also a member of the indie pop supergroup FIZZ, alongside Dodie, Greta Isaac, and Martin Luke Brown.

Her show in Denver was beyond sold out and the Perplexiplex (Meow Wolf’s concert venue) was filled to the gills with folks happy to finally see Orla live. (I searched but as far as I could tell, this was her first time playing in the Mile High City).

The atmosphere was joyous, raucous and any other -ous’es you might want to add. Orla’s voice is just as beautiful live as her recordings but her personality stole the show. I felt like we were hanging with a friend, even though you could hardly move in the packed room.

Her journey from uploading videos online to performing on international stages is a testament to her talent and determination. With each song, she invites fans into her world, one that’s as colorful and compelling as her music.

So, if you haven’t yet experienced the whimsical world of Orla Gartland, now’s the perfect time to dive in. Just be prepared to laugh, cry, and dance along the way. She will be on the festival circuit this summer, including Glastonbury and Lollapalooza – BUT, MOST IMPORTANTLY! She will be back in our state on August 7th, opening for Glass Animals at Colorado Springs’ Ford Amphitheater.
