The Hives at Gothic Theatre Denver

The first time I saw The Hives, it was seven years ago, it was at Red Rocks, and it was when guitarist Nicholaus Arson knocked all the photographers right on their asses. For this show at Denver’s Gothic Theatre, the whole band pretty much knocked the whole crowd on their asses, at least metaphorically. In 2019, The Hives and Refused are together for “The Official Swedish Scream Tour,” and Bleached opened the night.

If you have never seen The Hives, I cannot recommend them enough. I know it’s only May but I can say with certainty this will be one of my favorite concerts of the year. Their energy, charm, and musicianship is not to be missed. Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist is everything you want in a punk band frontman. Both cajoling and jeering and all. over. the. damn. place.

The Hives head back to Europe next, so catch them when you can. In the meantime, enjoy their new song, “I’m Alive,” till they make it back to us.
