Photos from Denver Zombie Crawl 2017: Blood and Clowns

Denver Zombie Crawl returned to the Mile High City with a vengeance this year. Sure, since the date for the event was a bit earlier than normal there was perhaps a bit lighter attendance (not much), but our Colorado undead were no less enthusiastic. In fact, I would say the commitment to blood was over the top in 2017.

Not surprisingly, the costume we saw the most often was CLOWNS … and given my great fear of them, I hid behind my camera all day. Besides the clowns, I love how Zombie Crawls brings all the Denverites out. It’s such a diverse event that you can adapt for yourself. We go with our best friends and the kids, but later in the night head out adults-only for the after-parties.

It’s an awesome Colorado event that has something for everyone. Continue reading…

Tons of Photos from Denver Comic Con 2017

Every year, when I attend Denver Comic Con, I try to lurk in the shadows. Mainly because I like catching people in candid moments rather than setting them up all posey-posey. Not that there is anything wrong with smiling straight into the camera for photos – I just love observing the wide variety of people at DCC and how they interact with each other.

2017 brought the geek out for 115,000 attendees and again makes Denver the third largest Comic Con in the country (behind San Diego and New York). There were some rule changes and lots of space reorganization that bewildered folks at first (including me) – but once we got the hang of it, all was well. Continue reading…

Denver Zombie Crawl returns to 16th Street Mall for Halloween fun in 2016

Photos from Denver Zombie Crawl 2016 – Creepy Fun on 16th Street Mall

It’s that time of year again! We are close to Halloween, which means Zombie Crawl takes over Denver’s 16th Street Mall with some really outrageously creepy costumes. Given the state of our election, I expected an onslaught of Trumps, but only saw a few and they always had a Hillary on their arm. The zombie zeitgeist this year was full-on Day of the Dead, with multiple examples up and down the mall.

It’s the 11th anniversary of Denver Zombie Crawl and this year it also fell squarely on founder Danny Newman‘s birthday. Personally, I can’t think of a better present than tens of thousands of costumed creatures taking over downtown.

Riot Fest Denver Photos: Chevy Metal, Bad Religion, NAS

Here is it, finally. My final post from the final music festival in Denver this year. Riot Fest Denver Day 3 culminated with the reunion of the *ORIGINAL* Misfits, who have pretty much hated each other for 30 years. I have no idea how they pulled this off, other than perhaps some massive therapy. They sounded great, but sadly, no photographers were allowed in.

It happens… and also allowed me to run over and catch NAS, who put on a killer final set of the day.

My other standout, of course, was Chevy Metal. I was surprised as I listened to the crowd discussing the band, reading directly from Riot Fest’s description. “A 70’s rock cover band?” I wanted to scream back at them: “WITH TWO FOO FIGHTERS, YOU GUYS!”

I ain’t gonna lie. Photographing Taylor Hawkins, perhaps my favorite drummer ever… that was f-u-n, FUN.

Everyone else I got to that day was incredible as well. Bleached, Flatbush Zombies (including their awesome romp through the crowd), Bad Religion and especially Gogol Bordello rounded out a day that started great and just kept going.

Thanks again for an awesome weekend, Riot Fest. Can’t wait to see what tricks you pull out of your sleeve in 2017.
