Olivia Jean at Lost Lake Lounge

I was lucky enough to catch Olivia Jean live twice this year – first at Shaky Knees, and then in a much more intimate concert at Lost Lake here in Denver. While she rocked it in Atlanta, I have to say I much preferred the Lost Lake show. Olivia and her crew seemed much more at ease – especially in the dark venue! And I loved having such a special performance with someone unlikely to place such a small space again.

Formerly of The Black Belles (and, yes, currently Jack White’s wife – who has been a long-time collaborator on Jean’s music), she embarked on a solo career almost 10 years ago. Raving Ghost was released this year and is her third solo album. Her music is definitely a unique fusion of vintage aesthetics and modern sensibilities.

Pair that with her raw and powerful live show, Olivia Jean makes me wish I could see her for third time this year. Oh wait! – I just may be able to, since her next show is Riot Fest, which I am headed to Chicago to cover this year. Otherwise, the east coast can catch her into November!
