Billy Idol at Red Rocks Denver
Another bucket list moment for me! Billy Idol lit up Red Rocks with the kind of raw, swaggering energy that made him a rock icon in the first place. The punk legend, known for his sneer and bleach-blond spikes, strutted onto the stage like it was still 1983 – and honestly, the crowd loved every second of it. Backed by longtime guitarist Steve Stevens, Idol ripped through his classics like with all the fire of his early MTV days. His voice, gravelly but strong, carried through the amphitheater as all us fans sang along beneath a glowing Colorado sky.
Between songs, he flashed his trademark grin and joked with the audience, giving the night a loose, almost club-like vibe despite the grandeur of Red Rocks. The interplay between Idol and Stevens was electric – Stevens’ guitar solos shredded through the air, and Idol matched the intensity with his signature fist pumps and snarls. The set balanced nostalgia with muscle, proving that Idol isn’t just coasting on his hits but still revels in the power of live performance.
Making the night even more special, we also got a poignant tribute to Ozzy Osbourne from band member Billy Morrison, who worked with, and was close to, the rock legend that we lost earlier this summer.
Red Rocks, with its dramatic natural backdrop, felt like the perfect setting for his brand of defiant, theatrical rock. When the first notes of “Eyes Without a Face” echoed through the canyon, the amphitheater turned into a sea of lighters and phone lights, a mix of tenderness and grit that perfectly captured Idol’s dual appeal. The crowd spanned generations, from fans who’d been there since the early punk days to younger listeners who discovered him through their parents’ playlists.
By the encore, it was clear this wasn’t just a nostalgia trip – it was a reminder that Billy Idol still owns his space on stage. His charisma, attitude, and stamina haven’t dulled a bit and he left us all wanting more, more, more. To that end, he released a new album, Dream Into It, in 2025 and continues the tour in South America till the end of the year. Hope you get to see him too!
