Echoes of Americana at Marjorie Park – Concert Photos & Review
Late this summer, The Echoes of Americana music festival brought five amazing acts to Marjorie Park, the Museum of Outdoor Arts sculpture park next to Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre in south Denver. I was there from beginning to end, and every single band gave me a reason to be glad I did.
It was a lovely setting for a full day of music. With sculptures around the grounds, food trucks and room to explore vendors between sets, there was plenty to enjoy beyond the stage. One particularly cool truck from Rocker Spirits served drinks right from the dashboard. A small detail, perhaps, but definitely one I remembered.
Echoes of Americana is a Celebration of Roots Music
The lineup brought together Colorado musicians and touring artists, moving through bluegrass, folk, soul and rock over the course of the day. Americana is a pretty broad umbrella, and this was a good example of how much can fit underneath it.
High Lonesome brought the bluegrass side of that mix. This Colorado band combines traditional string-band sounds with original songwriting and influences from the jam and jazz worlds. Their harmonies and combination of fiddle, dobro, mandolin, guitar and bass made a great introduction to the day.
Gasoline Lollipops added another Colorado connection. Led by Clay Rose, the Boulder band pulls together folk storytelling, rock, soul and a little punk grit. They have plenty of range, which made them a natural fit for a festival where the artists shared roots without all sounding alike. I have seen Gas Pops many times, and they never miss.
My favorite discovery was The Band Loula. North Georgia duo Logan Simmons and Malachi Mills describe their sound as “swampgrass,” blending roots music with strong harmonies and a soulful delivery. Their connection as singers was a big part of the appeal, but Simmons’ voice really stopped me. She has that big, beautiful power I associate with singers like Kelly Clarkson. The kind of voice that makes you pay closer attention, even during a day already full of good singers. And she did it while being super pregnant! They were the act I most wanted to spend more time listening to afterward.
Langhorne Slim brought his own mix of folk and rock to the lineup. I have wanted to see him live for so long! The Nashville-based singer-songwriter has been making music for more than two decades, with an expressive voice and songs that leave room for both tenderness and a good dose of rock and roll. He was another strong part of a bill that kept me interested from beginning to end.
Shovels & Rope closed the night. Charleston duo Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent combine folk, rock and country influences, building a substantial sound with just two people. I enjoyed their set, although the stage lighting was incredibly dark, so I came away with fewer photos of them than I would have liked.
Even with that minor photographic challenge, I was glad I stayed through the last band. This fun festival gave me a full day of great music, a new favorite to follow and a chance to enjoy a different kind of concert setting beside a familiar Denver-area venue.
Echoes of Americana Returns for 2027
Echoes of Americana is slated to return next summer over 4th of July weekend (perfect!), so that’s something I am already looking forward to for 2027.
