From the Lion King to Thriller
OK, nothing is perfect, but Declan is having a super dooper awesome time at summer camp – near drownings aside. The last two weeks have been “drama” oriented. And when I say drama, I mean singing, dancing, performing. Not the crap those Jezebel chicks pulled recently.
Last week: Lion King. This week: Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
What is Amazing with a capital A has been watching Declan, a child who stood shaking in fear during the Kindergarten winter play, have a blast with all this. OK, maybe he isn’t going to be the next Gene Kelly. But, he is literally the youngest kid up there performing, and he’s keeping up (kinda) with kids twice his age. GO DEX. And whatever! Either way, he’s having a blast.
The other thing I love about all this is they are learning all aspects of theater. Makeup, costumes, lighting. The works. And everything is handmade.
Check it out for yourself. More photos in my Summer Camp Flickr set.
And the piece de resistance?
Here is Thriller, the extended version. Declan comes in around 1:46 and is on the right side of the stage. And is off-beat pretty much the whole time. Errr, I mean HE ROCKS IT!
Now THAT’S cute! Little kids (who definitely aren’t professional) on stage always get my tear ducts working.
I forgot to mention!!!
THEY HAVE **TWO DAYS** TO LEARN THE ROUTINE!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you believe that???????
Oh my god, that was brilliant. Thank you for the huge grin on my face!
That is painfully adorable! Man, now I really feel like putting on a paper wig and dancing to some old Michael Jackson.
That’s like my typical Friday night anyhow.
The elephant rocks! It is so cool.
What a neat program. I think it is fantastic.
Brilliant.
Great Dex…. you got your Mommy beat !!
I feel connected to Dex through our amazing ability to stay off beat the entire time. I think it’s far more complicated that joining the rest of the group.
He’s adorable as always and it sounds like a great camp.
PS – Billy and I got our new iPhones this morning. We arrived two hours early and were about 40th in line. I’d like to tell you that it’s wonderful, but I can’t connect with iTunes so I can’t get started so I can’t rave about it – but I can say that it’s very pretty.
HAAAAA! Okay, that video is pretty much the best thing I’ve seen all week. Glad to hear that Dex had fun! 🙂
That is too funny!!!!!
Wow..that’s a long number for those kids. I remember when Thriller came out; I didn’t have the attention span to sit through the entire production..let alone dance along to it.
Nice work kids!
That was amazing! I loved watching Declan.
I am in awe of this program – the creative team behind it are fantastic! I was speechless at the giraffes and then I saw the elephant! Wow!
Anytime little kids do the Thriller routine, I’m happy.
love it!
Did I hear a kid at the end say ‘You bettah not mess with me!’ ??
That was the highlight of the day. And that lion king elephant is pretty impressive! Thanks Aimee!
Loved it! Loved watching Declan do his thing.
There’s something so un-self conscious about the way kids behave, its charming and sweet and yes, I’ll admit, brings a tear to my eye.
this is awesome!!!!!
I’m having one of those days, and I can’t get the video to work, but the pics are fabulous. R- would be so jealous if she saw this.
Oh, I am so glad he’s having fun! I wanna get my MJ cd out and jam to some Thriller now! 🙂
This is fantastic.
I seriously had never thought of Thriller as being the subject of a kids theater performance, but omg, cool. (and I can’t even um, see the video since I ah, may be checking blogs at work)
That was too cute! I loved the off beat stomp clap. 🙂
My kind of summer camp.
