Hotel Hoodoo Moab, Hilton Curio Collection

I was a bit desperate for a getaway recently, and we found a lull in all the chaos of the world to head over to Moab, Utah, from Denver for a few days. It’s about a six-hour drive, give or take traffic, and we mostly just wanted to be OUT of the house. We used to go to Moab and camp a lot – and it’s still a great place to do that. But we wanted to relax and forget about the world for a little bit. In the past, most of the Moab hotels have been nice, but I was looking for something a little special. To my surprise, the Hoodoo Moab (part of the Hilton Curio Collection) had opened in 2019.

Our Review of Hotel Hoodoo Moab

If you would like the TL:DR version: it was great. Terrific location right off the main drag of Moab, lovely space, great pool. Nice restaurant, good food. Perhaps our only complaint was the slow service from the food service staff, but everyone else at the hotel was top notch. More details about each below, but we definitely enjoyed our stay.

The Lobby

Gorgeous! All browns and gold, it felt luxurious but not over the top. These touches continued down the halls and all around the hotel.

Hotel Decor & Rooms

The place itself is small, and meant to feel more boutique, which we liked. The hotel wraps around the pool and backs up to some lovely Moab red rocks, so most rooms have great views. The decor feels rugged Utah – but still modern and fun. (We loved the carved dinosaur bush!) You can check-in via their app and receive a digital key, so in these times of COVID, extra care has been placed on limited contact. See Hilton’s cleaning protocols here. Josie Wyatt’s Grille Restaurant

As I mentioned, we mainly stayed at the hotel all weekend, so we ate at the restaurant for many of our meals, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Each time, the food was terrific – while sadly, the service was exceedingly slow (like, we had to ask for our server multiple times on multiple occasions). There was one exception – his name was Patrick – and luckily, he was with us during the days while soaking up rays by the pool. Check out the menu; you really can’t go wrong! (And, hopefully, we just caught the servers on a bad weekend.) Also, with the hotel being a block from Main Street in Moab, there is a plethora of food choices nearby as well!

The Pool

While many people packed up during the day and headed out on adventures in Moab (totally get it – there is so much to do!), we just wanted to chill, so the pool was a main attraction – plus it was nice and warm in September! It had lots of little nooks to hang out in and pretend we were lounge lizards – as well as a detached hot tub. Kids came and played in the afternoons, which was also fun to watch from our shaded loungers.

All in all, we will most definitely head back to Moab, especially to do more outdoors – but also to hang out again at the Hoodoo Hotel. It was a vital break during a very weird year. Cheers to (hopefully) more adventures in 2021!
