Janelle Monáe - Concert Photos & Review - Red Rocks Denver

Janelle Monáe at Red Rocks

What an incredible year for concerts in Denver. I was so honored to photograph multi-dimensional artist Janelle Monáe (they/she) at their packed Red Rocks show. Janelle is known for their innovative and genre-blending approach to music. They seamlessly combine elements of R&B, funk, pop, soul and rap in their songs. Janelle Monáe is celebrated not only for their exceptional musical talent but also for thought-provoking lyrics that often touch on themes of identity, empowerment, and social justice. Plus, their impact on the industry extends beyond music (and acting!), as they continuously advocate for inclusivity and representation in both their art and activism.

All of that was on display at her Red Rocks concert. On top of the top notch vocals, stage design, dancers and backing band – it was so fun to see costume changes throughout the night that continually changed the mood to match the music. Janelle held the crowd in the palm of their hand; not an easy thing to do with almost 10,000 people.

The show was in support of The Age of Pleasure, which is Janelle’s fourth studio album. They spoke to the crowd about the importance of self-love and acceptance. It was hard to hear them sometimes over the roar of the crowd and the backing band – but that just added to the celebration.

Janelle Monáe finishing up the tour next week and I can’t to see what they have up their sleeves next.
