I wasn’t sure what to expect when seeing a Melanie Martinez concert for the first time. But the show was definitely an incredible spectacle from start to finish at Denver’s Fillmore Auditorium. I knew we were in for a treat when I saw the theatrical set design, and then Melanie burst out on stage with a dance company that kept me mesmerized the entire time. (I honestly had three times the amount of photos, but really had to limit myself. Everything was just so fun to watch!)
Melanie Martinez is an American singer-songwriter known for her unique blend of dark, alternative pop music and insane visuals. Rising to prominence via her appearance on The Voice in 2012, she recently released her latest album PORTALS in 2023.
I did a little googling to see how her persona has changed, because as you can see below, she now performs in a double-eyed mask, which I discovered she has created along with her albums. I can’t imagine it was easy to perform in the get-up, but she seems to pull it off without a hitch. She was also very candid about the themes of the album, especially mental health and becoming “reborn.” I love hearing from an artist’s heart, especially when the fans are as engaged as they were at the Fillmore.
Melanie heads to Mexico for the rest of her tour, but I am looking forward to what her imagination brings us next time in Denver.
