Outlook Lodge: Mountain Resort Hotel Near Colorado Springs

Outlook Lodge: Mountain Resort Near Colorado Springs

Right before Christmas, we were invited down to Outlook Lodge, a quaint getaway near Colorado Springs. The building itself has been there since 1889 but was completely renovated with modern upgrades that still reflect its original character.

Think rich wood, luxurious fabrics and pine trees all around as you settle in with some wine.

Outlook Lodge isn’t your typical hotel. It’s truly a lodge. The structure has been creatively divided so there could be two suites or several different rooms – all with shared common areas – like the living room, kitchen and even laundry area.

We enjoyed meeting another couple visiting Colorado from our home state of Maryland, and loved hearing their impressions of the tiny town of Green Mountain Falls (where Outlook Lodge technically resides), as well as Colorado Springs.

You pick up your keys from a lockbox and settle into your quiet room(s) as you see fit. Outlook Lodge is perched on a hillside, up away from the road – so you bring your bags in the back and then park down below, right next to their sister hotel, The Little Beaver Inn.

We were on the second floor, which has three individually locked rooms, its own common room and enclosed porch to look out over the forest.

Two of the rooms had twin bunk-beds, so our son was pretty much in hog heaven. Add the fact that he could watch TV from the top bunk… and he never wanted to leave.

Upstairs, we also had two bathrooms and a common sink between them. I liked to call that my emergency middle-of-the-night water stand.

Our weekend escape to Outlook Lodge was just what we needed before the holidays. Peaceful and luxurious.

We were close to the small town of Green Mountain Falls, and visited their parks and restaurants. Luckily it was off-season for us – and easy to get a seat at The Pantry. Locals told us there are many more visitors in the summer – partaking in the natural beauty and attractions of the area.

Colorado Springs / Manitou Springs Attractions

We stopped at the Manitou Springs Cliff Dwellings on our way home – mainly because of all the spots listed below, it was the one we had not been to before. Sure, it’s smaller than other cliff dwellings in the Southwest, but it’s very affordable, a quick stop, easy to access, and very informative. We loved it!
