Sagrada Família Church in Barcelona, Spain
I was thrilled to attend Mobile World Congress in Barcelona with the Microsoft Lumia Connects team this year. Most of my time was spent learning about tech, but we managed to grab one afternoon for serious sightseeing.
The Sagrada Família Catholic Church designed by Antoni Gaudí was pretty much top of my must-see’s. We didn’t have time to get timed tickets to tour the inside, but trust me – even a visit to the outside is worth it.
Sagrada Família is an expiatory church, which means that it has been built from donations from its very beginnings in 1882. Currently, it is continuing major renovations, which are estimated to be complete in somewhere between 2026-2028. But even with the cranes and scaffolding, the building is stunning.
Every little piece of the facade has art tucked into it, and when I read the history and meaning of the design, it makes me determined to have a much longer visit next time – with a guidebook in hand.
Tickets are roughly 15-25 Euros, and the church has varying open hours based on the season. Also, their web site has a list of “do’s and don’ts” which is helpful when visiting a religious site.
Don’t miss this amazing basilica in the heart of Barcelona. If you can only tour the outside, like I did – it was a quick jump off a tour bus. If you have time for the interior, give yourself more time, and plan to be dazzled.
These are some of the best photos I have seen of Sagrada Familia Church! We were in Barcelona 6 years ago and are headed back this Summer!
Stunning! I want to go right now!
Yes! It’s an amazing place!
I’ve been several times….the first time 30 years ago when I was traveling through Europe in my teens. I can love seeing the progress of the cathedral!
Yes! Barcelona is one of my top favorite places to visit so far!
We went last Sept—you get amazing views by going up in the towers. We even ran into a friend from Denver (had no idea she was in Spain!!). What I found even more breath taking was the cathedral in Córdoba. Literally, took my breath away—one of the most amazing places I have ever seen!!
Agreed. So amazing. When I was there I found it so odd that I hadn’t heard of it before. How can that even be possible. It’s a wonder!
Yes! We were there a few years ago. Amazing place.
