Sting at Red Rocks
Sting, the iconic frontman of The Police and a solo powerhouse, has carved out a legendary career by blending rock, jazz, world music, and classical influences. With his distinctive voice and poetic lyrics, Sting has amassed a vast catalog that feels both intimate and epic.
I saw Sting for the first time in the early 90s, back home in Maryland, where I grew up. Then, when The Police reunited in the 2000s, I had the opportunity to see them again. Recently, I had the chance to attend and photograph the “Sting 3.0” concert at the iconic Red Rocks amphitheater here in Denver.
Fans were treated to a mix of old Police favorites and solo gems, all delivered with effortless cool and tight musicianship. Sting’s voice – still strong and unmistakable after all these years – echoed beautifully against the monoliths. So many people wanted to see the show that they kept adding dates until we had three full nights under the stars.
Sting also sprinkled in personal stories and moments of gratitude, which gave the concert a welcoming, almost unplugged feel. He caught on that a lady in the crowd was having her 85th birthday at the show, so he invited her (and her only!) to visit him at his castle in England. There was also a point where Sting was joking with his legendary guitarist, Dominic Miller, about what a task it was to choose songs for the Sting 3.0 tour from the monumental number of possibilities. (Check out the setlist below from night one at Red Rocks to prove how good of a job they did on that front.)
Watching him perform live, it was clear he’s still having fun — and still has something to say. From his early punk-tinged roots to the elegant showman he is now, Sting has proven that artistry only deepens with time. It was truly an honor to watch.
The tour continues in Europe this summer and then back to the states in the fall – I hope you can catch them too!
