I had the pleasure of chatting with the band Whitacre a few weeks before their sold-out album release show at Lost Lake Lounge. I finally made it out to see them live and indeed, they put on a great show. Fun rock along with the…
I met Paul Whitacre from the band Whitacre at least a year ago and I have been trying to make a show of his ever since. For whatever reason it has never worked out, but I am looking forward to their headlining show at Lost…
Levitt Denver has done a great job this summer of pairing local Denver bands with national acts that come through for their free concert series. However, in the case of Slim Cessna's Auto Club, they had a local act that is so big they could…
We can all breathe a sigh of relief because the UMS (Underground Music Showcase) is returning in 2018! Everyone was a little scared when it was announced that The Denver Post was selling off our largest local music festival (three days, four stages, 20 venues…
Here is the next post in my series of "5 Questions for 5 Bands" who are playing at the Westword Music Showcase ... the festival is right around the corner! Can't wait to see all these local artists rock out earlier in the day. Also, be sure…
I often talk about how Rob Drabkin is the first Denver musician I ever met in person, although neither of us can remember exactly when that was. It has to be over a decade now, at least, and I try to photograph at least one…
I have seen Ian Mahan perform live a few times but hadn't had a chance to photograph him until his show last week at Lost Lake Lounge. Ian recently released a new single, "Breakaway," but was also pretty prolific in 2017 with twoEPs. He writes some great songs, but is also fun to see live. It's usually a stripped down concert, which IMO shows off his songs best. Although he's the kind of songwriter that it would be cool to see a full orchestra behind him too. (Maybe later in 2018???)
Either way, keep an eye on Ian Mahan and get out to see him when you can.
