The Aces concert photos and review - Summit Denver

The Aces at Summit Denver

The return of The Aces to Denver felt a little like catching up with old friends. I’ve photographed them several times over the years, but somehow a few years had slipped by since my last show. Seeing them again at Summit Music Hall was a reminder of why their concerts have always connected so strongly with fans – joyful, welcoming, emotional, and just plain fun.

The Utah band has continued to evolve since first breaking out with their glossy indie-pop sound, leaning further into themes of identity, relationships, and queer joy while still keeping those huge hooks intact. Their music has always carried an openness that makes people feel seen, and that energy was everywhere inside Summit that night. It felt less like a typical concert crowd and more like a community gathering built around dancing, singing, and unapologetically being yourself.

The Aces sounded fantastic from the moment they hit the stage. Crisp vocals, tight musicianship, and the kind of confidence that only comes from years of touring together. The set moved easily between older favorites and newer material, with the audience screaming along to nearly every word. There was a warmth in the room that matched the band’s personality – playful between songs, genuine with the crowd, and clearly appreciative of the longtime fans who have stuck with them through the years.

One of the things I’ve always appreciated about The Aces is how naturally they create space for LGBTQ+ fans without making it feel performative or forced. It’s simply part of who they are. In a time where queer visibility still matters deeply, especially for younger fans looking for connection and representation, shows like this carry extra meaning. You could see it all over the room in the friendships and pure happiness radiating back toward the stage.

And honestly, beyond all of that, it was just a blast. The kind of concert where you walk out smiling, ears ringing, and remembering why live music matters so much in the first place. After a few years away, it was very good to have The Aces back in Denver.
