X-Games Austin With Nokia Lumia
Anyone who knows me understands I am a clutz. So, the idea of me attending an extreme sporting event is actually kind of… hilarious. The good news: No hospital visits! The better news: Hanging out with a bunch of new friends watching some really cool athletes and musicians while playing around with technology. Sure, it was pretty much hotter than the sun there but that is why I drink watery beer. HYDRATION.
I was thrilled when Nokia invited me to the X-Games, not only because it sounded like a blast – but because, as a photographer, I had been dying to play with their 41 megapixel smartphone, the Lumia 1020. I had seen an early version of Windows Phone OS when Bryan was working for a Surface table company and liked it (“Metro” has been ripped over all over the place with very little credit to Microsoft). It just didn’t have ANY of the apps I needed.
I am glad to say that has changed. Almost every major social app is there and now with the release of Windows Phone OS 8.1 and Cortana, there is Siri alternative too. I am not sure I can give up my iPhone entirely, but I will say I am seriously considering making the Lumia my main phone.
Because look:
This photo is untouched. Straight out of the Lumia. No joke.
Look at it blown up on Flickr.
I really can’t compare the photo capabilities with my iPhone. I am now comparing them with my DSLR. One drawback is the screen resolution on the Lumia is not as good as the iPhone, but once I knew the photo quality was there, I just trusted it. And had a blast.
We had some amazing food.
We got to play at a jungle gym.
We hung out down at the track.
We got to see Pretty Lights. (FoCo represent.)
We watched events from right underneath.
We got to laugh at dance with Kanye West.
But best of all, I got to hang out with some great people.
Many thanks to Nokia for having me. As you will see, we have continued our relationship and I will have more to share about our adventures and the Lumia phones. Let me know if you have any questions.

I have been wondering what you thought of the Lumia. The pics look amazing.
I have had Android forever, but these pics are so great!
I like my android too but this is giving me some pause!
NO WAY. I hate to admit it but I love Kanye West. And how fun that you get to go on these trips? I am really surprised at the quality you are getting with the pics from the Lumia. Is it because you are a photographer,or do you think it is good for regular peeps too?
There are manual settings to really dial it in but many of these were just taken on the regular set up! Very easy!
Best event ever! So cool you were there.
Right Will???
You see Tony Hawk???? 😉
