Ever since I was able to interview The Glorious Sons, I was looking forward to their show at Denver's Globe Hall. These rockers from Canada did not disappoint. I was also pretty happy that local band One Flew West opened the show, which made for…
Denver band One Flew West has been around for several years now, and it's always awesome to see them live in concert. They were at the Bluebird Theater for the release of their new EP Trial and Error last week and the place was packed. Fellow Coloradans Silver & Gold and Compass & Cavern opened the night. The guys played a wide variety of tunes - including songs from the new EP (of course), older faves like "Kind of Love" and "Had It All," as well as a new one that lead singer Linden Jackson had written only a few days before. Videos are something this band is really good at - so be sure to check out their YouTube Channel. Especially since new videos of songs from the show are due out very soon. It's been amazing to watch One Flew West grow as a band. I am lucky to have photographed them several times before, but this was their first headlining show at the iconic east Colfax venue. Based on how much ass was kicked, I know there will be many more.

I love the Denver music scene, right? I love it even more when every band on a show is local, and awesome. In particular, when long time friends In The Whale put on a show, since they are out on tour so much lately, it's a priority to go see them no matter who they play with. But they had One Flew West and CITRA on the bill too - basically trifecta of awesome. In The Whale are just two guys who somehow fill the room with great rock and roll. I still have no idea how they do it, but I think it has something to do with talent and grit. It's been a thrill to watch them build a following all over the country at music festivals like Austin City Limits and Lollapalooza or supporting mega-acts like Jane's Addiction and The Toadies. But when they come home, it's still just two guys having fun playing music to a room full of friends.

I love it when bands I love have local bands I love open for them. Such was the case when Saints of Valory returned to Denver at the Gothic Theater with One Flew West. If you are from around here, you have heard the Saints of Valory song "Fighting" many times on our indie station, KTCL - who the band credited for being the first to play the song anywhere in the country. Just in case you haven't heard it, check out the tune here on Soundcloud. It's awesome, as is their two previous EP releases. I also love when a band can translate their energy into a live show - which as you can see from the photos - both of these groups definitely do.
