American Authors & Billy Raffoul at Denver Gothic Theatre

American Authors & Billy Raffoul at Gothic Denver

I’ll be honest – I am sure I could look it up – but I have lost count of how many times I have seen American Authors live. All sizes of venues, all kinds of shows. Every time they play, they leave it all out on stage. You can tell how much they love playing, and how much they love their fans. It’s always been that way – since the very first time I saw them at our tiny Larimer Lounge (I do remember that one specifically!).

This time, they brought Billy Raffoul, who I had always wanted to see live. I wondered how that smoky, emotive voice would translate live. Turns out, it’s pretty damn amazing. Billy is also a really funny person, so that makes those fairly emotional songs seem a bit lighter. He also just released a new EP, I Wish You Were Here.

The combo was terrific, so I hope they make it back together soon. In the meantime, American Authors will be back in Denver next month for Alice 105.9’s “Alice in OneRepublic Land” – which features (you guessed it) Colorado natives OneRepublic.
