Avett Brothers & Railroad Earth at Red Rocks
Recently, I was able to catch The Avett Brothers for the first time (I KNOW!) at Red Rocks, with opener Railroad Earth, who I had seen a looong time ago at the much more intimate Ogden Theatre.
Railroad Earth is a bluegrass-infused Americana band that has been jamming since the early 2000s. The group’s dedication to touring has made their live shows legendary, with setlists that change nightly and surprise collaborations with other artists.
The Avett Brothers have become a staple in the Americana music scene – and have several sell-out nights at Red Rocks every summer. Formed by brothers Scott and Seth Avett, the band started out playing small gigs in coffee shops before gaining a devoted fan base. Their breakout album, Emotionalism (2007), put them on the map, but it was their 2009 record, I and Love and You, produced by Rick Rubin, that propelled them into mainstream recognition.
Their live shows are known for being both intimate and electrifying, with fans singing along to every word. In recent years, the band has continued to tour extensively, captivating audiences with a mix of new tracks and fan favorites. They’ve also expanded their sound, experimenting with more electric guitar and heavier rock influences, without losing their folk roots. For long-time fans and newcomers like me, an Avett Brothers concert is a joyous, soul-stirring experience. It’s no wonder their fan base keeps growing!
I loved how both groups genuinely enjoyed playing – and OF COURSE – were thrilled to be playing at our legendary Red Rocks once again!
