Greta Van Fleet: Photos from Red Rocks Night Two
I had the pleasure of seeing Greta Van Fleet for the first time earlier in the summer at the Bunbury Music Festival. That experience prompted me to swear I would never miss them live again. Especially when playing their first show(s) at Denver’s historic Red Rocks Amphitheatre. I was able to photograph night two, because, yes – these guy’s first appearance there was so big they needed two nights.
The band, made up of three Kiszka brothers and their longtime friend drummer Danny Wagner, are relatively young – all in their early 20s. But musically, they seem to be born of a different generation, often compared to Led Zeppelin or The Who.
That’s pretty on target, with their psychedelic outfits and light show (which were a blast to photograph) – but don’t write Great Van Fleet off as wannabes. They are incredibly talented musicians, sensational performers – and put on one hell of a live show.
Even the most veteran of bands come out in awe of Red Rocks, but you could tell Greta Van Fleet was truly happy and thrilled to be playing there. They even added a John Denver cover in honor of one of Colorado’s first musicians to hit it big.
The band finishes up the U.S. tour this week and then head to Europe during the Winter and Spring. Let’s hope they get back to Denver real soon too.
