Keane concert at Buell Theatre Denver - concert photos & review

Keane at Buell Theatre Denver

Keane, the English band formed in 1995, has been crafting soulful, piano-driven rock for nearly three decades, and they show no signs of slowing down. Known for their breakout 2004 album Hopes and Fears, Keane captured hearts worldwide with hits like “Somewhere Only We Know” and “Everybody’s Changing.” Their distinct style, characterized by soaring melodies and rich emotional depth, stood out in the early 2000s, thanks largely to their unconventional use of the piano in place of a lead guitar. It was a risk that paid off, as the band’s debut album became one of the best-selling albums in UK history.

In 2020, Keane was scheduled to play Denver’s Mission Ballroom on March 13th. I know this because that was the day the word shut down for COVID and their show got canceled at about 3pm. We all understood the decision, but I was particularly heartbroken as Keane is one of my all time favorite bands – straight back to Hopes and Fears. (I was honored to photograph them back in 2010 when I was just starting to cover concerts – you can imagine how thrilled I was!)

Lucky for us, the rescheduled tour finally came through Denver in 2024 – this time to the stunning Buell Theatre – for Hopes and Fears‘ 20th anniversary. The band talked about that COVID time for them, being in Denver as we all realized this was really serious and the complications of getting home to England, while also feeling really bad about letting fans down. They were really determined to put on a great show to make up for it.

Let us down, they did not. Lead vocalist Tom Chaplin’s unmistakable voice, combined with Tim Rice-Oxley’s songwriting, continues to bring a unique blend of introspection and catharsis that resonates with fans old and new. At our Denver show, fans have been treated to a lovely mix of nostalgia and new material, with Chaplin’s voice as powerful as ever. I really like their latest album, Cause & Effect, so I was glad to see that represented as well.

If you get the chance to see Keane live, don’t miss it. They will finish this tour in South America, but hopefullt we Denverites continue to hold a special place in their hearts and they visit us again sooner than later.
