My Warning To New Parents

Your baby is itty bitty. You start singing a song that soothes them. It seems harmless. The baby calms down. You sing it again. And again. And again. They love that song. You do too. You sing it every night. They love that. You do do.

But trust me.

Nine years later.

That song becomes your own personal hell.

This is why I purposefully chose something I thought I could listen to for years to come. You know, one of the “classics.”

And at 7 and 12, they now sing their favourite lullaby to me – “Folsom Prison Blues.”

    Heed her warning, parents.

I love this song! LOL But guess what song our great nephew loves and asks me to sing all the time? It’s from the same movie! Do-Re-Mi! BBB

I know. Sound of Music is one of my favorite movies of all time. I shouldn’t complain. Ha. Sometimes it just gets OLDDDD!! :)))

It gets really fun when we sing in with new words, various accents, in rap style, as loud as possible, left handed, etc.

My Mom and I would sing the songs from The Sound of Music together all the time when I was little, frequently while she played the piano. Thanks for reminding me of this lovely memory 🙂

Indeed. I chose wisely. Bicycle Race by Queen. I would alternate it with Bicycle Built for Two. But the one he remembers is Bicycle Race.

Ugh, agreed! I had a few of these. Even later-introduced songs are susceptible to this. I swear, I really cannot hear “This is Halloween” from The Nightmare before Christmas without going insane. F you, Jack Skellington.

    I love that song.
Our song is “You Are My Sunshine” and I still sing it every night for 2 kids, have for years. I liked it waay back when I was in high school and my sister and I would drive around & sing it at the top of our lungs. You’d think I’d learn more than 2 verses. Ha.

btw – I’m only allowed to sing in my “Mommy” voice, otherwise I get yelled at.
