Firefly Music Festival Nokia Lumia

Firefly Music Festival with Nokia, MixRadio & The Foo Fighters

Note: Nokia provided travel to Firefly Music Festival but all words and photos are mine.
Have you heard of Firefly? I grew up near Annapolis, but this music festival in Delaware had started well after I moved to Colorado. My friends from Nokia Lumia asked me to join them there, allowed me to invite Monika, and introduced me to more of their friends while we all proceeded to try out glamping. No typo there. Glamping. Meaning a fancier version of camping, which suited Monika and me just fine.
Fitz And The Tantrums

Fitz & The Tantrums at The Ogden in Denver

People often ask how I can stand being landlocked here in Denver, but the truth of the matter is 1) you get used to it, 2) you oddly feel safer, and 3) you enjoy the benefits of being a major crossroads city in the middle…
The Fray at Red Rocks

The Fray at Red Rocks

The Fray are cursed. Every single time they play at Red Rocks, it absolutely pours. As if Mother Nature grabs a huge bucket and dumps it on Morrison, Colorado, whenever she hears the first few notes of Over My Head. Not joking. DUMPS. I know,…
Dicount Code Westword WMS

FanPlan.Info Discount Code for Westword Music Showcase (WMS)

Sometimes ideas are born of frustration. The past few years Bryan, Monika and I have been attending festivals and having trouble accessing schedules in the moment due to poor cell service and/or apps that are full of graphics. At one point last year we started making Google Doc spreadsheets that had the times, bands, venues and twitter handles available - just to make our lives easier. This morphed into FanPlan.Info, which is a text-based micro site best viewed on mobile phones. It shows (and sorts) the schedule of major festivals by time, band and stage. And when you click "tweet this," a pre-populated tweet pops up with band name, twitter handle (if they have one), venue name, venue handle (if they have one), the time the band is playing, official festival hashtag, and, of course, #fanplan.
Naked And Famous

The Naked & Famous in Boulder

Note: The Naked and Famous provided tickets to the show but all photos and words are mine.
I can't remember the last time I attended an event at Boulder Theater, much less photographed a show there. Honestly - the massive construction on Route 36 has severed the cord between Denver and Boulder for months and months. But I absolutely made the trek for The Naked And Famous recently; I love their music and had heard they are amazing live. I listened to "Passive Me, Agressive You" so many times - if it were a cassette tape it would have snapped. My young son Dex knows the lyrics to "Young Blood" by heart. Their latest album "In Rolling Waves" is catching up quickly in the playcount as well - it feels a bit more moody to me, which suits my mood oftentimes in the mornings.
Bombay Bicycle Club - Concert Photography

Bombay Bicycle Club

Note: The band provided tickets to the show but all words and photos are mine.
Sometimes I look through my concert calendar and notice that things are magically aligned. Much like when Bombay Music Club played Denver on my birthday this year. I have liked them for a long time, and I love their new album, "So Long, See You Tomorrow." What a perfect combination to head down to the Gothic to photograph the band *and* ask a bunch of friends to join the celebration.
The Wild After - Lesson Learned

“Lesson Learned” by The Wild After (Live)

One of the great things about the Denver music scene is how interconnected everyone is. The Wild After is a fairly new band who has just released their first EP. Two members are formerly of The Heyday. The bass player is from Churchill. The drummer also plays in Ivory Circle. They all have other things with other bands that I honestly can't remember right now. Plus they all are backing up Matt Hires on his tour that started last night at the Marquis Theater.
