Red Rocks Concerts

Brandi Carlile, Gregory Alan Isakov and Anderson East at Red Rocks

I continue to catch up on an amazing summer of concerts at Red Rocks. Brandi Carlile, Gregory Alan Isakov and Anderson East performed together in August with a little bit of rain and a lot of heart. It was one of those perfectly Colorado evenings where the weather only added to the atmosphere.

I was excited to see Anderson East because I love his album, Delilah – it’s been on repeat for months. It had only been out for about a month and had already been on repeat for me. His gritty voice and mix of Southern soul, R&B and roots rock were a great way to start the night. He later returned to the stage to join Brandi for a fantastic cover of Sam Cooke’s “Bring It On Home to Me.”

Gregory Alan Isakov is from Colorado and I have seen him play several times, but never had the pleasure of photographing him. His quiet, thoughtful songs always feel right at home under the Colorado sky. He also joined Brandi later in the evening for “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” which naturally turned into “Rocky Mountain High.” You can imagine how well that went over at Red Rocks. Such a joy and such a talented crew!

And Brandi Carlile, what can I say? What a lovely spirit and an incredible performer. From the first minute she and her band stepped onstage until the end of the concert, you could tell they were having as much fun as the crowd. That kind of joy is contagious.

The set included favorites such as “The Story,” “Raise Hell” and “Turpentine,” along with several songs from her new album, The Firewatcher’s Daughter. “The Eye” was especially beautiful with Brandi, Tim Hanseroth and Phil Hanseroth singing together. Their harmonies are always stunning, but hearing them fill Red Rocks was something special.

I also love the mission of her Looking Out Foundation, which uses music to support humanitarian organizations and community efforts around the country. That generosity seems connected to the warmth she brings to the stage. This was a wonderful night of music from three incredibly talented artists, and I am so glad I finally had the opportunity to photograph all of them together.

Hope you enjoy all these photos as much as I enjoyed the show!
