David Byrne at Bellco Theatre Denver

There are artists who put on a show, and then there’s David Byrne.

His stop at Bellco Theatre in November 2025 – part of the Who Is The Sky? tour – leaned all the way into what makes him such a singular presence. Not just the music, but the movement, the staging, the ideas behind it all. It felt carefully constructed without ever feeling stiff.

If you’ve seen Byrne live before, you know he doesn’t do static. This show continued that tradition. The stage stayed in motion, the performers weaving in and out with that signature mix of choreography and looseness that somehow works every time. It’s theatrical, but never overdone.

The setlist (see below) pulled from across his career, including moments that traced back to Talking Heads, alongside newer material that fit right in. That’s always been one of his strengths – songs decades apart still feel connected, like they’re part of the same conversation.

Vocally, Byrne sounded strong and present. No coasting. There’s still that slightly off-kilter delivery that makes everything feel a little more urgent, a little more human. And the band around him carried a lot of weight too – tight, dynamic, and clearly in sync with the bigger vision of the show.

What stood out most, though, was the tone. Byrne spent a surprising amount of time chatting between songs, telling stories from his life – especially his experiences during COVID. They landed somewhere between dry humor and genuine charm, giving the night an easy, personal feel that balanced out the precision of the performance.

Bellco Theatre was a good fit for this kind of production. Big enough to let the staging breathe, but still intimate enough that you could catch the details – the expressions, the transitions, the small moments that make a show like this work.

It’s not nostalgia, even when the older songs hit. It’s more like a continuation. Byrne has always been a few steps sideways from everyone else, and he still is.

And honestly, it’s hard to imagine him doing it any other way.
