Ford Amphitheater Colorado Springs with Cage The Elephant
There is a new venue on the Front Range! I was able to visit the Ford Amphitheater Colorado Springs to both check out the place, and see the incredible band Cage the Elephant live. Ford launched just this summer (originally named Sunset Amphitheater) and is situated on the north end of Colorado Springs – luckily for us folks from Denver.
The 8,000 capacity venue is cleverly laid out, with the seats facing west and the sun setting behind the stage (thus its original name). There is a section of seats, then a row of VIP fire pits, and a section of lawn seats in the back. I walked around the entire venue, and there wasn’t a bad view from anyway due to the sloping nature of the structures. When those fire pits are all lit up – it makes the view back into the venue pretty magical. Almost like some event in ancient Greece!
The sound and lights were phenomenal, as one would expect from a new venue. Cleverly, the bathrooms are tucked back behind the seating, so any lines won’t get in the way of fans enjoying shows. There are several food options, including the swanky Roth’s Seafood and Steakhouse located at the back of the venue – due to open in Winter 2024.
I will be definitely keeping an eye on Ford Amphitheater’s upcoming events and adding them to our Concert Calendar into 2025. I might even stay at a hotel down there in Colorado springs for a couple of the shows in the future to make a special night of it.
As it was, Cage the Elephant certainly put on a special show – the last one of their tour with lead singer Matt Shultz in a boot (this the bike contraption he was performing on – impressive!). Also loved having his brother Brad Shultz jumping out into the crowd for a killer guitar solo.
Cage The Elephant has long been a powerhouse in the alternative rock scene, captivating fans with their raw energy and genre-defying sound. Formed in 2006, the band quickly gained attention with their self-titled debut album, featuring hits like “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked.” Their music, a blend of garage rock, punk, and blues, has earned them a devoted following and critical acclaim, including multiple Grammy Awards. I have been lucky to photograph the band several times.
However, their latest album, Neon Pill, was on repeat for me all year – so I was very excited to see them perform it live. And in pure Matt Shultz way, he still got all 8,000 of us up and dancing even with a broken foot.
Cage continues to tour in Europe in 2025, as well as opening for Oasis here in the United States. If you have never seen them, I highly recommend catching their live show as soon as possible.
