Phantogram at Fillmore Denver
Phantogram, the indie electronic duo of Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter, has been delivering hypnotic beats and ethereal vocals since 2007. I have been lucky to cover Phantogram in concert several times. They returned to put on a kick-ass show at the Fillmore Denver recently to a completely packed room.
Their breakout album Eyelid Movies (2010) put them on the map and they gained huge traction with Voices (2014), featuring the darkly infectious “Black Out Days.” Over the years, they’ve collaborated with artists like Big Boi from OutKast, blending hip-hop elements into their sound. Phantogram’s latest album, Memory of a Day, was released in 2024.
When performing, Phantogram is a powerhouse. Their concerts are a swirl of pulsating lights, hypnotic visuals, and Sarah’s soaring vocals cutting through Josh’s gritty guitar and layered beats. At our recent show in Denver, they seamlessly mixed old favorites with newer tracks, proving their music still hits hard. The duo’s chemistry on stage is undeniable, and their passion fuels an electric – albeit very dark (in lighting) – atmosphere.
Phantogram continues to evolve while staying true to their dreamy yet edgy sound. If you haven’t seen them live yet, put it on your bucket list — you won’t regret it!
