Denver Comic Con

A Real Superhero is Coming To Denver Comic Con

Note: Denver Comic Con has provided my family with passes and Grayson's photo but words are mine.
There has been a real shift in our family entertainment this year. It's not just us telling Dex about cool stuff coming to town, he is noticing it happening around him and requesting to go. Case in point is Denver Comic Con, which runs June 13-15 at the Denver Convention Center. Of course I have heard of it before. Let's face it, we're nerds (and proud of it). The timing just never worked out. But when your graphic-novel loving, Dr. Who-vian, Minecraft-obsessed kid asks about Comic Con, you put it on the calendar.
Denver Chalk Art Festival

Denver Chalk Art Festival

Summer is officially here. Sure, not REALLY till later in June, but the weather sure feels like it this weekend. On top of our blue skies and 85 degrees, there was lots of chalk art in Larimer Square. Absolutely for sure PROOF it is summer.…
Bombay Bicycle Club - Concert Photography

Bombay Bicycle Club

Note: The band provided tickets to the show but all words and photos are mine.
Sometimes I look through my concert calendar and notice that things are magically aligned. Much like when Bombay Music Club played Denver on my birthday this year. I have liked them for a long time, and I love their new album, "So Long, See You Tomorrow." What a perfect combination to head down to the Gothic to photograph the band *and* ask a bunch of friends to join the celebration.
The Wild After - Lesson Learned

“Lesson Learned” by The Wild After (Live)

One of the great things about the Denver music scene is how interconnected everyone is. The Wild After is a fairly new band who has just released their first EP. Two members are formerly of The Heyday. The bass player is from Churchill. The drummer also plays in Ivory Circle. They all have other things with other bands that I honestly can't remember right now. Plus they all are backing up Matt Hires on his tour that started last night at the Marquis Theater.
Trombone Shorty Denver Concert Photos

Trombone Shorty

Note: Trombone Shorty provided concert tickets but all photos and words are mine.
I remember falling in love with Trombone Shorty's debut album "Backatown" in 2010 - but he really became a household name around these parts when he performed on Joe King (from The Fray)'s solo album. Shorty's second album "Say What To This" is just as amazing and I was absolutely thrilled to photograph his Denver show. Trombone_Shorty_01

The Mowgli’s Concert

Note: The Mowgli's provided tickets for their show, but words and photos are mine.Last year, the song "San Francisco" was playing on pretty much every radio station in Denver. It's a seriously fun tune, and after seeing The Mowgli's live in concert, I can promise…
March of Dimes - March For Babies

March For Babies Denver is April 26th

Note: March of Dimes and Cigna provided statistics for this post but I was not compensated in any way.
Last week I posted about pre-e and mentioned that Dex was a premature baby. Honestly, it was one of the most stressful times of my life. Since then, I have bonded with other moms of premature babies, and also found support through the March of Dimes. We try to join in their annual March for Babies, but sometimes it conflicts with my birthday (this Sunday) and any corresponding plans. Yup. As it does this year. It's amazing to think these are the first photos we have of Dex. The first memories of motherhood I have are of the NICU and tubes and lights and stress. But without this amazing medical intervention, my son would not be here. I had a placental abruption, which could not have been predicted - and they still have no idea why it happened.
