The Roots - Denver Concert Photos - Mission Ballroom

The Roots at Mission Denver

The Roots had to postpone their holiday show in Denver, but made it back to us in late winter. The packed crowd at Mission Ballroom was ready for their high-energy hip hop, that often combines elements of funk and rock. I have been lucky enough to see them several times and photograph them at Phoenix’s one-time Lost Lake festival. They never, ever disappoint.

The crew was founded in 1987 by Black Thought and Questlove and became household names when they joined Jimmy Fallon’s show as the house band. While that made tickets for their shows harder to come by, I am glad this amazing band finally got their due credit.

From the moment The Roots took the stage, everyone was dancing – from band members to all the fans. It was hard to catch Questlove in photos, but it was incredible to watch such a master drummer. In fact, I have to thank the wonderful lights this night that allowed me to catch anything – since every band member was back and forth across the stage all night. And while I often say I am not a music critic, it’s very easy to hear how talented every single one of them are, individually, and as a group.

Thus far, The Roots only have a few shows scheduled this summer, so I hope you are one of the lucky ones who will get to see them.
