And emotional nausea too…

Since Declan has allergies and (mild) asthma, he takes a variety of medications every night just like I do. One of them is Zyrtec syrup, which has been the blessing that has allowed me to keep my cat.

But tonight, I almost made a grave mistake.

For the cold he can’t seem to get rid of, Bryan has been taking a super revved-up cough medicine to stop him from hacking all night and help him sleep.

That comes in a bottle that looks just like the Zyrtec bottle.

Bryan saw it coming and even marked both bottles with HUGE BLACK LETTERS.

But I almost did it anyway. I handed my son the adult cough medicine that probably has codeine in it and just as he was about to chug it I realized my mistake, gasped, he paused, looked at me like I was crazy and I grabbed the medicine out of his hand.

I think if it weren’t for my anti-anxiety meds, I’d be a puddle of tears on the floor right now.

I hope you’re feeling ok today and so glad that you caught it.

Take it easy on yourself. Mistakes definitely happen.

Cut yourself some slack. You’re a great mom!

Mistakes happen. I’ve almost done the same thing.

Target Pharmacy, however, color-codes your bottles with a different color for each family member. Genius, I tell you, especially for brain-dead people like me.

    Ditto on the Target thing.
    Glad you caught it!

You caught it, all the same. Perhaps a small tray for just his meds, and so similar for the rest of you might help that in the future when you are tired and stuff. I know that I have to force myself to read and re-read the bottles before I pour anything for the girls.

Thanks all. :))) It’s not been a big deal before, because his bottle has looked so different from our meds. So, for now – Bryan’s cough stuff has been moved….!!!
