I ain’t gonna lie – but I really had no idea I would enjoy a Macklemore show as much as I did. But when he visited us recently at Mission Ballroom, I was honestly blown away.
Macklemore, aka Ben Haggerty, is a larger than life rapper with a knack for catchy beats who will have you bobbing your head along with every song. But beyond the bling, Macklemore’s live performances are like a rollercoaster of energy and good vibes. The dude knows how to work a stage like he’s been doing it since birth. Expect water cannons, crowd-surfing, and maybe even a surprise costume change. Macklemore’s all about making sure you leave his show with a smile plastered on your face.
He’s not just a rapper; he’s a storyteller. Macklemore’s lyrics dive deep into social issues, personal struggles, and triumphs, making his music relatable and thought-provoking. He touched on how, the first time he played Colorado, it was up in Boulder in a tiny cffe shop – and how astonished he was that ANYONE wanted to hear HIM play.
The man’s also got a sense of humor. You might find yourself laughing one moment and nodding in agreement the next. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or a casual listener, catching Macklemore live is definitely an experience. It’s like stepping a theatrical hip hop show, and the only rule is to have a damn good time.
I am definitely looking forward to the next time Ben shows up in town.
