Photos of Foster The People at Red Rocks

2013 was the first year we took Dex to shows at Red Rocks, and one of them was Foster The People - so the bar was set incredibly high. It was among *my* favorites of the season for sure. So, of course, I was thrilled at the opportunity to photograph the band when they returned to the best place on earth to see a concert again this year. If Foster The People's first album, "Torches," was a cassette tape, I would have worn it out. It's the kind that suits your mood even when your mood is all over the place. And when you see this band live, you realize just how much musicality is behind their sound; it's not just some studio creation. I love their second album "Supermodel," almost as much and, in the case of some songs, even more than the first album. You may have heard about the mural controversy and I was glad to see Mark Foster and the city of LA have come to an agreement, because the artwork is gorgeous as well.

The Naked & Famous in Boulder

I can't remember the last time I attended an event at Boulder Theater, much less photographed a show there. Honestly - the massive construction on Route 36 has severed the cord between Denver and Boulder for months and months. But I absolutely made the trek for The Naked And Famous recently; I love their music and had heard they are amazing live. I listened to "Passive Me, Agressive You" so many times - if it were a cassette tape it would have snapped. My young son Dex knows the lyrics to "Young Blood" by heart. Their latest album "In Rolling Waves" is catching up quickly in the playcount as well - it feels a bit more moody to me, which suits my mood oftentimes in the mornings.

Sometimes I look through my concert calendar and notice that things are magically aligned. Much like when Bombay Music Club played Denver on my birthday this year. I have liked them for a long time, and I love their new album, "So Long, See You Tomorrow." What a perfect combination to head down to the Gothic to photograph the band *and* ask a bunch of friends to join the celebration.

I remember falling in love with Trombone Shorty's debut album "Backatown" in 2010 - but he really became a household name around these parts when he performed on Joe King (from The Fray)'s solo album. Shorty's second album "Say What To This" is just as amazing and I was absolutely thrilled to photograph his Denver show.
