Top 3 Household Products You Could Not Live Without

I generally am not all into household products and brand names. We buy generic this and that whenever possible, and mostly Seventh Generation for anything else. But there are three things in our house that I must have the exact name brand, exact product for the job… because they ROCK.

=========================

Downy Wrinkle Releaser
We don’t really have a dress-up office, but it’s still frowned upon to show up in clothes that have been in the laundry basket for so many days that the wrinkles look like that lady who has baked in the sun for 50 years straight with no sunscreen. I seriously can’t believe that this Wrinkle Releaser stuff works, works so well and smells good doing it. I get out my iron like maybe once a year.

=========================

Dove Sensitive Skin Cleansing Cloths
I realize it’s the ultimate in laziness, but I love having these little cloths with the soap already embedded in them, so I can just wash and go. Because by the time I am ready to fall into the bed I cannot deal with anything more than that. And it needs to be Dove, because I hate the smell of all other brands. And it needs to be the sensitive skin variety, because living in Colorado, your face is ready to fall off your skull at any given moment anyway and it really doesn’t need any extra nudging from harsh soaps.

=========================

Glad Press & Seal Wrap
I would never have tried this if someone hadn’t given it to me on a potluck dish one time. When I saw how it worked, I was hooked. Plastic wrap that actually… wraps? And works so damn well it makes me willing to try that old Krazy Glue commercial with it? Sign. Me. Up.

=========================

So, what are YOUR TOP THREE? The ones you would flip out, scour the stores, and eventually start a letter-writing campaign to the company if they discontinued them?

I cannot live without the following:

Glad Freezer Bags. I’m not sure why, but I use them for everything. Everything. I even picked up dog poop with one once (too expensive to continue THAT habit).

Windex. It might possibly be the best all-purpose substance there is. I like to buy it in huge quantities, too. I lie awake at night sometimes, worrying that I’ll run out of Windex.

Schick Intuition Razor. Is this a household product? I love it. If you haven’t used one, pick one up. It makes shaving my legs so much easier!

  2. aimee / greeblemonkey

So, you are like the father in My Big Fat Greek Wedding with the Windex??? 😉

  3. Tanaya

I’m totally with you on the Downey Wrinkle Releaser. Plus, it smells good. My friend claims she uses as perfume.

    My three are:
Dyson vacuum: 2 cats, a golden retriver and a 4 year old boy. The stuff that things picks up is amazing and little revolting.

Toaster oven – we have a pretty fancy one and use it to cook alot of stuff.

The HUGE box of white trash bags from Costco. That roll never seems to run out.

  4. aimee / greeblemonkey

I cracked up about the perfume.

And GOD, I *love* our Dyson.

OMG, that GLAD Press & Seal is the BOMB.

  6. diana

i’m in total agreement with all three of yours, but especially the downey wrinkle free spray and the press ‘n seal. both are amazing stuff!

i’d add the clorox wipe-ups, too. like wack-a-do said, it’s just a matter of minutes to transform your bathroom.

  7. Sue at nobaddays

I’ll go with the Clorox wipes but want to add:

    – Reynolds Green Plastic Wrap – so named because it’s green in color, and you won’t believe how handy that is until you try it. Great to be able to SEE when it’s folding back on itself, and whether the edges are fully overlapped when you wrap cheese. And the box has a handy “EZ Slide” cutter on it that actually WORKS.

    – Oxyclean powder. The big tub from Costco. Lifesaver.

Finally, to make life easier, we get housecleaners in twice a month. I don’t know what they sprinkle on the carpets before they vaccuum or spray on our furniture before dusting but it makes them look, feel and smell great. Know it’s not too harmful because we ordered their “organic treatment” package.

  8. Stacy

Love all of these, but must add to the list:

    Mr. Clean Magic Eraser!

  9. aimee / greeblemonkey

    oooooooo. Oxyclean. Love that too.

OK, and can you all tell me the secret of the Magic Eraser? I have never tried it.

  10. mamalicious

The Magic Eraser scares me a little. It’s amazing, but almost TOO amazing. I don’t get how it works.

  11. monstergirlee

I use the Target brand of facial cleanser wipes – no time to shower? at least I can get last nights mascara off my face in about 5 seconds and I look great. ha! love them – they’re on my list.

My Dryer – (tho I look forward to trying out the downy wirnkle releaser). I use my dryer for that sometimes. I call it “Refreshing” my jeans or skirts. They’re not really dirty but been worn once and have a few wrinkles. So I mist them with water and toss in the dryer for about 10 minutes. And they’re fresh as new. Highly effective for me.

third… oh my Dust buster. With a toddler at home that things saves me huge amounts of time. yay!

#4 if I can throw this in. Dentek Floss Picks – I now floss every single day and its so freaking easy! When I go see my dentist, he tells me my home care is Excellent (I kid you not!). When was the last time you heard that? I love them. They’re also great to throw in your purse to floss after the salad you had at lunch.

  12. Wack-A-Do

    Okay, here are my three:
    1. Schick Intuition Razor-absolutely the thing, ever. EVER.
    2. Clorox Wipe Ups: Two seconds to the appearance of a clean bathroom/floor/kitchen counter…
    3. Swifter Duster: dust in a fraction of the time

Looking back at my choices, I’ve just come to the realization that I am a lazy cow.

  13. mayberry

See I must have the Pond’s Exfoliating wipes. For the same reason you have the Dove. To alleviate my guilt about disposability, I clean the sink with the cloth before I throw it out.

Also, laughing at monstergirlee because I was going to say Plackers floss thingies. I canNOT master the plain old floss–must have the preloaded little sticks. Also get compliments from the hygienist!

#3? hmm. probably Eggo Nutrigrain frozen waffles. we go through 2 boxes a week.

  14. aimee / greeblemonkey

Oh yeah! I have one of those Flosser doo-hickeys too and I love it. I hate cutting off the circulation in my fingers with floss!

So I guess my list is more like Top 6 things…

  15. aimee / greeblemonkey

well dang, wish I had heard of that vusion stuff back when I could gave used a semitruck full! And welcome Trapped!

  16. trappedintime

    “Clorox Anywhere Hard Surface”
It’s food safe! Overspray, no prob!

“Diaper Genie” one or two, model 2 is better IMO.

“Vusion” not exactly household item, but I put it on the kiddo AT WILL if I think there’s something funny going on below. It’s prescription, but it handles yeast to rashes, ALL in ONE.

  17. Bitsy Parker

I buy spray starch by the truckload (not that ever pick up an iron). I’m going to check out Downey Wrinkler Releaser!

  18. Jennifer aka Binky Bitch

Thanks for the Downy tip, I often forget laundry in the dryer and it gets so wrinkly!

My products…Magic Eraser, Awesome Cleaner, and the intuition razor.

  19. aimee / greeblemonkey

SJC, Bring it! Post any and everything you like!

And is the 409 Carpet cleaner/Nature’s Miracle two separate products? Because I stopped the cat peeing on the couch (by buying a new mattress, it’s a daybed couch), but I still smell it a bit. In the pillow I think. Any suggestions?

  20. samantha Jo Campen

    My Favorite Topic EVER.

1). B&D ScumBuster. Holy God this thing is amazing. Showers, carpets, car tires, etc. I’d toungue-kiss it if that wouldn’t be too creepy.

2). Magic Eraser. I don’t know how it works and frankly I don’t care. It is a gift from the Heavens and it’s not my place to question: buy one now.

3). 409 Carpet cleaner/Nature’s Miracle. We have a kitty pee-pee problem and this fantastic duo keeps me sane.

I could go on and on but I don’t want to monopolize your comments:-)

  21. sue

I’d have to go with the Magic Eraser’s, too. Why they work? Who knows. Who cares. they work!

I’m a fan of the Seal wrap, too.

Last, but not least, I like the Dyson. With lots of critters in the house, it picks up lots of hair.
