Behind the Scenes of Cirque du Soleil KOOZA!
If you follow me on Twitter, you know that a bunch of the Mile High Mamas were invited to the premiere night of the new Cirque du Soleil show last week. Bryan and I have been to several Cirque shows, and I have to say Kooza was my favorite yet. And not just because us Mamas were invited back yesterday evening to get a little idea of what happens behind the curtain.
Kooza is back to basics. A lovely, simple story with great acts.
Seriously, if you have never been to a Cirque show, think about it. I know they are expensive, but as I said to the Kooza folks, it’s like the Olympics of circuses. The most amazing acts, really great music, and my personal favorite: costumes you would just DIE to wear on Halloween.
I have to say, I am glad we didn’t take Declan to the show – it’s a bit risque at time (oh, those crazy French-Canadians!) and the stunts made me want to cough up a lung in fear sometimes (High Wire and Wheel of Death dudes – I AM TALKING YOU YOU!!!).
And I also have to say, I am also glad I didn’t take Declan to the behind the scenes action, because Cirque was not prepared for all our kids – we Mile High Mamas are good at making babies – which lead to an awkward deer in headlights moment when we showed up en masse. So there was some frantic scrounging for sugar and clown noses – because, hello, that’s what you do when 20 kids arrive unexpectedly.
With the kids happily settled, we Mile High Mamas got to chat with Kooza moms who are married to performers in the show. Two of whom are married to the High Wire dudes I mentioned above, so I was sure to let them know how much their men FREAKED MY SHIT RIGHT OUT.* They were impressed with my low tolerance for excitement AND my foul language.
We also met Sophie’s mom. I know she has a name and is a really nice person and Sophie’s dad does music blah blah blah something in the show, but frankly, I didn’t get past that CUTE CUTE CUTITY BABY.
We had to abbreviate the full tour that was planned because of all those damn Mile High Kids, but we did get to see the area where they store and work on costumes between shows. Which is all I wanted to see anyway, because as I mentioned above, I am enthralled with Cirque costumes. I told Robin, who is married to one of the main clowns of Kooza, that I couldn’t help looking at her husband’s ass* during the show and noticing the gorgeous curly q embroidery, the details that Cirque puts into the little things – even something like a clown’s ass.
=======================
*I didn’t really say “shit” to these ladies I just met. I save that for strangers on the internet.
*I did actually tell the clowns wife that I looked at his ass. But I used the word “butt.” Because, duh. I hardly know her.
How cool is that????
Sophie’s dad plays trombone, which is what my husband does as well. My husband would kill for Jim’s job.
Yeah, Meghann, I know. I was just being funny. 😉
OMG! I am so jealous! I love Cirque! How cool. – m
😛 I should have asked you to ask him if my husband could have his job. Lol!
I am sure that would have gone over well.
You don’t think?
“Um, I know this person online, and um, I’ve never met her, but she swears her husband is a very good trombone player. So um, can he have your job?”
Lol!
I wish I could have gone!
I LOVE the photos you got from the visit behind-the-scenes! I swear I was in the same room with you and don’t even remember seeing some of the things you caught on film! LOL! And, yes, it was a good thing you didn’t bring Declan. Otherwise, who would’ve looked after my kid? 😉
Thanks for the behind the scenes tour and fabulous pictures! We are huge Cirque fans and have taken our kids to a couple of shows. I can only hope that we DC Metro Moms get a sneak preview when Kooza comes our way. I’ll be looking for that curly q!
I saw Kooza last night, and it was phenomenal. Although our seats kind of blocked the view for the Circle of Death spin-y things. Soooo jealous you got to go backstage. I am bound & determined to join Mile High Mamas. Minus the having a kid part. I think I’ll just start introducing the fabulous Declan as my own.
I loved it, too! I wasn’t going to bring Claire UNTIL THEY SPECIFICALLY ASKED ME TO. Seriously! I had childcare all lined up but then canceled it when they sent the email inviting her. Oh well. Bygones. She was thrilled with the cupcakes, and the clown nose was just a bonus. 🙂
Very cool. I did got to go behind the scenes when I was with the Rocky, and I loved it! But I didn’t take such great pictures…
LOVE your pix!
I DID want to try on a skull headdress, just to show my son. That would have greatly raised my stature in his eyes.
you lucky little beyotch for getting to go behind the scenes with a camera AND look at the clown’s ass…uh…butt. seriously jealous. these are awesome pics…will have to check out your stream as i am sure they are there as well. sheesh, you’re my hero aimee….ireland AND cirque? you rawk.
Sounds awesome. We just saw Ka in Las Vegas last month and they did the Wheel of Death too and I thought I was going to die just watching it. I love Cirque shows.
