Pardon Me?

I am sure you heard that Bush gave Scooter Libby a Get Out of Jail Free card today. While technically not a pardon, still an absolute waste of power and revolting to the core.

This is what Bush had to say about it: “I have concluded that the prison sentence given to Mr. Libby is excessive. Therefore, I am commuting the portion of Mr. Libby’s sentence that required him to spend 30 months in prison.”

You’re telling me that the man who blew the cover of a CIA agent doesn’t deserve jail time? That 30 months is excessive? And that the President feels the need to step in for this one man?

OK. But that poor 17 year old kid in Georgia who received a consensual blowjob from a 15 year old and got 10 years in jail doesn’t deserve consideration? That’s not excessive, Mr. President?

I smell bullshit.

And it stinks.

My friend Caroline/Babs just sent an email suggesting we all call the White House and let them know what a ridiculous use of Bush’s “power” this is.

Sure, a flood of calls won’t change anything… but you can blow off some steam.

I can just hear the conversation between the President and whomever.

    “Scooter is going to jail”

“No he isn’t, I’m the president and I can just pardon him right?”

    “Uh, yeah, but…”

“Well what good it is to be the President if you cant get your friends out of jail.”

And thus the rich and powerful take care of their own, leaving the rest of us to wonder if Paris was a sacrificial jailing. I wonder if she will protest saying “If I had to Scooter does too!”

I am so damn disappointed that the Daily Show is in reruns this week. I think they need to come back just for this.

I can’t believe that reporters did time for protecting sources while Libby walks. Disgusting.

When do the impeachment proceedings begin?

It is one of those newstories that breaks and I think, “I wish I were in the room when Jon Stewart hears about this.”
    Yeah, I’d be mad too.

There’s a special place in Hell for Bush.

    And Cheney.

    And Scooter.

And. . .and this could take a long time, but you catch my drift. Thanks for the number!
