Terror on the Mountain
This weekend, we met our friends up the hill for a nice day of skiing with our little kids. At least that was what it was supposed to be. Until, I, the person who hasn’t been on skis in over 8 years decided to give it a whirl.
See, here’s the thing. I *can* ski. I just don’t *like* it. I realize, that in typing those words I may be driven out of my home state of Colorado for even thinking such blasphemy, much less putting it out on the internet for all to see, but there you have it. I really don’t. like. skiing.
However, I *do* enjoy going up the hill and *photographing* other skiers, especially the 4 foot variety that where birthed from me, so when Bryan takes Declan, I go. And I run along the hill with my camera and document the event.
And you must understand that Bryan is a snowboarder at heart. And not some johnny-come-lately. He has been snowboarding for 25 years, before they even let them on the mountains. So, he doesn’t like skis all that much either. When he takes Declan up, he rents blades. I got a wild hair on Saturday and decided to try his on and see how I liked them.
That’s when I made a complete asshole of myself. (Psst. If you have delicate ears and eyes, there is *cursing* involved in this video. As one would expect when you are an idiot as big as me.)

Thank yooouuuu. Thank you verrah much. As I told my friend Cheryl, “It’s OK to laugh at my expense.”
If you would like to see the part where I didn’t make an ass of myself and got some fun pics, check out my Flickr photos.
The look you gave Skiier Man? Priceless. Loved it.
Lookin’ good, kid.
that was awesome.
That’s one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a long time! It needs to go viral, really.
And laugh at your expense I did 🙂 Bryan’s commentary was priceless.
Thanks for sharing!
I know Gman… my favorite comment was “well, I haven’t seen that before.” LOL!!!
The commentary from Bryan is adorable! You got back up and did it again, and that’s what counts.
My stupid internet connection will not play videos. UGH! But from what I can see, you and I could be twins. That’s so something I would do. 😉
Thank you so much for the great laugh this morning!!! Ya know, if we can’t laugh at ourselves (and have others join in on the hilarity), then really, what’s the point anyway?!!
And bless Bryan for keeping the video rolling instead of rushing to your rescue (even keeping Declan nearby because, “no, buddy, Mommy’s okay, just stay up here”). Your sense of humor has never been better showcased than with this video! You rock!
I laughed, I cried. I nominated you for an Oscar.
Holy shit, that was fucking funny.
Oh darling, I remember when I was about 4 and they didn’t have the magic carpet, they had a tow rope and those things were murder on my little hands. It took me much longer to get up the hill. I lost my gloves, my hat, my skis, everything. It was horrid.
That was priceless, I thank you for sharing that. You two are so awesome.
i guess this means you won’t try cross country with me…. 😉
Laughing? Me? …. 😉
Thank you all for supporting Aimee on this. If you all encourage her to go skiing with Dex and I every weekend, you can see videos like this every Monday. Your votes are what make it happen.
Keep in mind, she was wearing ski boots that were several sizes too big, and hasn’t been on snow for several years. Except for a few bumps in the carpet, she did really well. Plus, I learned the golden rule of video documentation: Never stop the camera. Ever.
Bryan
Awesome, awesome, awesome 🙂 You do have the best husband ever, lovin’ the commentary.
That could have been me last year when we moved to CO, hadn’t skied for 10 years and almost started crying at the ski lift I was so afraid of the heights. But practice, practice, practice…
Thanks for sharing!
THAT made my day.
Hi-fucking-larious! Thank you so much for sharing – I love the writeen and verbal commentaries.
I can so relate because I absolutely could never master the ski lift thing – got knocked on my face or ass more often than not – even caused them to stop the ski lift in Lake Tahoe once. Oh, the humiliation! And yet, I LOVE swooping down the slopes.
OMG I love a woman who shares her dignity with the Internet in video format.
And I love your husband too. How cute was he?
Oh, Aimee!! That was hilarious. I really tried to like skiing when we moved here. I gave it my all for YERAS and then admitted defeat. We’re all much happier when Momma doesn’t ski. 😉
The funniest things that happened to me involved little kids shouting “pizza! french fry! pizza! french fry!” at me…and the one time a Mom and her little bitty girl came skiing up to my crumpled heap of a body on one of the green runs and asked I needed my poles back. 😉
that was awesome….Loved it
I only wish I’d emptied my bladder before I watched that. I went skiing in Colorado only once. In powder. I cried.
I’m not laughing AT you. I’m laughing WITH you. snicker! snicker!
Made my day Aimee!
Ha ha, thanks everybody!
…and Carrie, it’s easy to be impressive at -5 mph!
To the lady that said “are you going to submit this to Funniest Home Videos?” Whatever! That was so 1990’s. We’re going to put it on Aimee’s blog…
I like skiing, which is weird because I am generally an “Indoor” girl.
I couldn’t get your video to load :(, but I’m sure it was fab.
Totally adorable! I ski like that too!!!! That is why I just love Texas, no snow. 🙂
Thanks for sharing and Bryan was a great camera man.
I can’t believe that guy!
You are so stinkin’ cute.
I am a born and bred skier, although I haven’t donned a pair since becomming a mom (my days are numbered) but when my husband (the snowboarder) tried to “teach” me to snowboard when I was 20, it was a disaster waaaay worse than this. Also — I didn’t have a magic carpet to take me back up . . . only the chairlift!
But lemme tell you . . . I’ll NEVER try that again. NEVER. I’ll stick to the skis.
And your skill without poles is very impressive, it is.
I miss skiing. And johnny-come-lately title or not, I want to learn how to snowboard with my kids. Heh. Can almost 40 year-old (in two years mind you) women do that?
thanks for sharing. no really, thank you… ahem… 😉
anyhoo, I am from CO, lived here my whole life minus about 18 months or so, and I do not find going fast down the mountain on slicked up pieces of wood fun. Really it’s not fun. It can be gratifying, but never fun, to me…
now Guitar Hero, that’s what I call fun!
Of course Mamma! Just stay off the Magic Carpet!
I am so glad you weren’t hurt. Thank you for one of the best belly laughs i’ve had in awhile.. loved the sound effects… or was that really your head hitting???
Given my own history of ski mountain disasters, I thought that video was ab-so-lute-ly hilarious. Thanks for sharing!
Way to shred, Greebs. And sweet kiddie skis.
Karrie – I actually do still have a bump on my head… but the sound was NOT me, LOL.
And Kim… a bar injury. That’s usually what I get. 😉
I hate to break it to you but my daughter kicked your magic-carpet butt. 🙂
Amber, EVERYONE kicked my magic carpet butt.
You are so brave to try those blades!
I don’t ski, board or blade, but do go up mountains. My last injury: huge bruise from a guy who dropped his ski against my arm while he fell walking towards the bar…
holy cow, that was damn funny.
I really and truly laughed my ass off, especially when you fell (sorry). I was secretly hoping you would fall again at the end (sorry again). You know that nothing makes me laugh harder than falling! And I know – THAT is going to kick me in the ass one day.
That was so funny. The noise when you fell…cracked me up.
Nice work on getting up and getting down the “mountain”! Good job!
