The First Pata

Got the news that my great aunt Tante Gretel passed away early this morning in Germany. She was the last surviving sibling of my grandmother and would have been 100 years old today. Imagine all the changes she saw in her life. She was my mom and aunt’s godmother, thus they called her “Pata” – and we kept that tradition for Aunt Heidi and Dex.

The last time we were in Germany, it was for her 80th birthday in the year 2000. We fumbled around in our German language and traditions but loved every moment of it.

I am sending up a big cheers to Lina (my Oma), Heinrich and Gretel! Miss you all.
